Music Discography

It’s all about the tunes, man.

Music is a funny thing. If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, then music is so often in the ear of the listener... Or something like that... In short, one generation’s Nina Simone is another’s Adele. Or Nicki Minaj**.

This activity is really about using music to elicit stories from each other.

Take turns sharing songs or whole albums that you both particularly like. Behind each song is a story: What they were doing the first time they heard it? What emotions does it conjure? etc.

Whether it's a turntable, iPhone or stereo, pop on some tunes and learn a little about each other's musical tastes and how things have changed over the years. Everyone their favourite music, so there will always be plenty to talk about.

Accompanying air guitar is completely optional.

** NB: We do not endorse the playing of Nicki Minaj music in any setting.

Important

Your Old Mate may get reflective during this activity - possibly leading for them to think about experiences or people who aren't around any more. Have a back up plan for if your Old Mate becomes distressed.

Inspiration

· If you’re stuck for ideas, you can always let your music streaming service do the work for you with their selection of curated playlists. (Spotify in particular has some awesome playlists, and in fact, we've been created a special #OLDMATE Playlist just for you).

· You can always take this activity outside, lay on the grass and pop in an earbud each (or get a splitter dongle).

· If you're unsure of the power of music and how damn cool this activity can be, then check out the following video:
